Its Never Too Late…sort of

30 09 2008

When I say it’s never too late, I dont mean never. If, for instance, you didn’t get a chance to gnaw on some penis-cake at Ian and Nicole’s program a few weeks ago, then it is most definitely too late. You also might have missed the boat on Katie’s office season premiere program (featuring cupcakes made of win).

BUT you still have a great shot at seeing your other other Peer Educator, Jessica, along with RA’s Mustfa, Nicole, and Sara. We’re planning a two-part event THIS WEDNESDAY and Sunday. You’re all still invited to Sunday Brunch, and we have a finite number of tickets to Wednesday’s performance still open.

There’s more info on both events here. So come on now, really:

don’t you just LOVE a good musical?

28 09 2008

This week is the final week of the New York Musical Theatre Festival!

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) is an annual three-week event showcasing new work and musical theatre artists that blends the economy of scale and grassroots mechanisms of other theater festivals with a technical framework geared specifically to musicals. By providing prime theaters, savvy technical support and capable staffing, plus a massive and original marketing platform for all assembled projects, the festival enables independent artists to effectively and professionally present work to potential producers and to a general audience of thousands.

Right now, the Broadway economy is making it almost impossible for new musicals to open and have successful runs because the costs are too high and people won’t pay the expensive ticket prices to see new works.

By seeing a NYMF show, you’re paying $20 (less than any Broadway show) to see a full-blown production of a BRAND NEW musical, and supporting up and coming artists who may have no other outlet to get their work seen. DO IT! :)

It’s Wednesday: Happy Hump Day.

24 09 2008

“An American English idiom for Wednesday is “hump day”, a reference to making it through to the middle of the work week as getting “over the hump.” This is actually incorrect, as hump day is correctly, and classically, Thursday.”

‘Howard Zinn: Voices’ and Youtube Discussion

23 09 2008

What are some things you can get for free? -Air

-NYU bus (which includes tardiness and clowns-in-a-volkswagon style crowding)

-The new (ridiculously bad) Facebook

-Hugs from John Sexton

What can you get for free that comes with food AND special guests?

-‘Howard Zinn: Voices’ and Follow-Up Brunch with RA’s Mustfa, Nicole, Sara, and PEIR Jessica!!!

First  we go to Skirball to see ‘Howard Zinn: Voices of a People’s History of the United States.’ It’s a collection of essays from famous and not-so-famous U.S. citizens, compiled from hundreds of years of amazing history. These essays are read, performed, and in some cases sung live on stage by a selection of special guests. This selection is kept a secret until the night of the show, but past performers have included Viggo Mortensen, Marisa Tomei, Kerry Washington, Jane Fonda and others. Whether you’re a history buff or you just love to see amazing displays of interpretation and talent, you will love this show. Reserve your spot SOON because space is limited!

Then everyone is invited to Sunday brunch (!!!) While enjoying free food we’ll show clips of your favorite shows that highlight the diverse history that plays out of your TV every week. Is your life and background accurately represented on screen? Or are you still waiting for a show that relates to your life story? What do Disney movies have to do with your life anyway…? All questions that we’ll discuss on October 5th.

**If you can’t make it to one event you are TOTALLY WELCOME to go to the other!**

Wednesday, October 1st 8 PM ‘Howard Zinn: Voices’ *Comment with your NAME, ROOM NUMBER, and EMAIL*

Sunday October 5th 2 PM Brunch and Youtube Discussion *No sign-ups necessary, just come prepared to eat and be merry*

Penis cakes = success.

22 09 2008

Thanks to the 32 students and staff members who attended “Porn. Mixtapes. Penis cakes.” last Thursday night. It was a tremendous success, we had a great discussion, and chowed down on some delicious penis-shaped cakes.

Here are some photos of what you may have missed:

Be on the look out for my next program, entitled “Lafayette Goes to the Museum of Sex.” It’s Saturday, October 25 at noon. More information to come.
